Arts for Learning (the Indiana Affiliate of Young Audiences), in cooperation with Clowes Memorial Hall and the National Writing Project-Indiana, is sponsoring a project to involve Indiana 4th grade and high school students in a celebration of the Indiana Bicentennial.  We will be inviting fourth-grade students to write about their community’s cultural legacy as part of their study of Indiana history.  The work will be submitted to the Hoosier Pride and Cultural Legacy Project Website and will be printed in a book.  The entries will also be used as inspiration for a photography contest for high school students.

Fourth grade teachers are encouraged to incorporate the following prompt into their classroom activities in fall 2015, and then submit some of the best and most representative writing to the Project website.  Arts for Learning and NWP-Indiana will select some of the posted writing for a print and online anthology.  All work posted on the website will of course be available to Hoosiers of all ages to read and learn more about the cultural legacy and history of their state, and to recognize the writing abilities of our young Hoosiers.
